This exhibition spans the history of the Paris bridges, presenting stunning silver-gelatin nighttime photographs. Beginning in 2008, American photographer Gary Zuercher pursued his project of photographing the bridges that cross the Seine. He shot only at night, on film and in black and white. He then researched and documented the fascinating history of each of those bridges. The photographs capture many of the beloved landmarks of the city, including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. The fascinating history of the bridges starts with Julius Caesar wringing about his conquest of Paris in 52 B.C. and continues through the centuries to the present day.

This exhibit is curated by Scott Ruby Ph.D, who has held curatorial and management positions at Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens, Washington, DC; Westminster Abbey Museum, London and The Jewish Museum, New York City.

Gary Zuercher’s six years of photographing and research of the bridges led to the award winning publication of his book, The Glow of Paris: The Bridges of Paris at Night. The Paris bridges work is currently held in the permanent collections of the Library of Congress and Georgetown University.
